Troubleshooting Discontinued Fenix Bike LightsUpdated 31 minutes ago

This guide covers troubleshooting for older Fenix bike lights that are no longer sold: the BC21R, BC21R V2.0, BC21R V3.0, BC30R and BC35R. Start with the checks below, then look up your model. If you have a current model, see its Manual & Specs article or product page instead.

Start with these checks

  • Remove the plastic insulation disc. Rechargeable bike lights may ship with a disc inside the body that blocks the battery. Take it out before first use.
  • Test the battery in another compatible device, or charge it fully or replace it.
  • Check the battery direction: the positive (+) end faces the head (LED end).
  • Use only one O-ring. The extra O-ring in the box is a spare; installing it keeps the light from making full contact with the battery.
  • Lubricate the O-ring with a small amount of silicone grease on a cotton swab.
  • Tighten the tail cap or head completely.
  • Press and hold the power switch for about half a second. A quick press won't turn it on.

Model-specific notes

  • BC21R: Make sure the tail cap is fully tightened.
  • BC21R V2.0: Make sure the head is fully tightened onto the body.
  • BC21R V3.0: It steps down to a lower output when it reaches about 140°F (60°C), to protect itself from overheating, or when the battery runs low. Let it cool or recharge the battery to get the higher outputs back. It has no lockout, so to prevent accidental activation, unscrew the tail cap slightly or remove the battery when you're not using it.
  • BC30R (all versions): Press and hold the power switch for half a second; a single click won't turn it on. (The current BC30 V2.0 is a different light; see its Manual & Specs article.)
  • BC35R: If the remote switch isn't working, make sure its plug is fully inserted. It can feel connected when it isn't, so push firmly, keeping it lined up so you don't damage the USB port.
