Fenix CL20R V2 Reference ManualUpdated an hour ago

The Fenix CL20R V2 is a rechargeable camping lantern with RGB mood lighting. This product is offered in multiple color options, which may change over time, so this summary does not reference any specific color. This summary is drawn from the manufacturer's official user manual — see the downloadable PDF reference manual on the product page for complete details.

Warning

  • Do not place this lantern in the reach of children.
  • Do not shine this lantern directly into the eyes of anyone.
  • Do not place this lantern near flammable objects — high temperatures can cause objects to overheat and become flammable/ignite.
  • Do not use this lantern in inappropriate ways such as holding the unit in your mouth; doing so could cause serious personal injury or death if the lantern or internal battery fails.
  • This lantern will accumulate a lot of heat while operating, resulting in a high temperature of the lantern's outer case. Pay close attention to avoid burns.
  • Remove the battery to prevent accidental activation when the lantern is placed in a closed and flammable environment such as pockets and backpacks.
  • The LEDs of this lantern are not replaceable; the whole lantern will need to be replaced when any one of the LEDs reaches the end of its lifespan.

Operating Instructions

Mode A is General mode, Mode B is Scene mode, and Mode C is Switch Light Ring mode.

On/Off: with the lantern turned off, press and hold the switch for 0.5 seconds to turn the lantern on and enter Mode A; double click the switch to turn the lantern on and enter Mode B; or single click the switch and then single click it again within 3 seconds to turn the lantern on and enter Mode C. With the lantern on, press and hold the switch for 0.5 seconds to turn it off.

Mode Switching: in Mode A, double click the switch to enable the Delay-off function (Switch Light Ring displays purple; lantern auto-off after 20 minutes). In Mode B, double click the switch to switch to Mode C, and vice versa. The corresponding outputs for Mode B and Mode C are switchable — switching between them preserves the current output type.

Output Selection: in Mode A, single click the switch to cycle through Moonlight → Low → Med → High. In Mode B, single click the switch to cycle through Red constant-on → Red flash → RGB chase → RGB flow → Stepless RGB. In Mode C, single click the switch to cycle through RGB chase → RGB flow → Red constant-on → Red flash. In the Stepless RGB output, double click the switch to freeze the current color or resume color changing.

Intelligent Memory Circuit: the lantern automatically memorizes the previously used output of General mode. When turned on again, the previously used output will be recalled. Note: the lantern will activate in Med output if it was previously switched off in High output.

Battery Specifications

  • Fenix ARB-LP1900 (dedicated battery, 3.8V): Recommended
  • Alkaline Battery (AAA, 1.5V) / Ni-MH Battery (AAA, 1.2V): Usable
  • Rechargeable Battery, Li-ion (10440, 3.7V): Banned

Do not mix batteries of different brands, sizes, capacities, or types. Only use the recommended or usable batteries mentioned in the manual. Using low-quality batteries or mishandling batteries (such as short-circuiting or overheating) could lead to combustion and jeopardize the safety of users and property. Using quality batteries with circuit protection will reduce the potential for combustion or explosion. It is recommended to use a Fenix ARB-LP1900 battery.

Battery Replacement: pull up the hanging loop on the bottom of the lantern and unscrew it clockwise to open the battery cover. Insert the battery in accordance with the polarity marks, then screw the battery cover back on.

Charging

Open the anti-dust cap and plug the USB Type-C end of the charging cable into the charging port of the lantern. While charging, the Switch Light Ring progressively displays green in a counterclockwise direction; it turns green completely when the lantern is fully charged. Once charging is complete, unplug the charging cable and close the anti-dust cover to prevent the ingress of dust and debris. All outputs can be used while charging, and the Delay-off function remains available (the Switch Light Ring will prioritize showing charging status). With the lantern off, normal charging time is about 2.5 hours from depleted to fully charged using the included ARB-LP1900 battery (this charging-time figure does not apply when using AAA batteries — do not connect the charging cable while using AAA batteries). It's recommended to recharge between 50% and 25% battery level to prolong battery lifespan; immediate charging is required below 25%.

Battery Level Indication: each time the lantern is turned on, the Switch Light Ring indicates the battery level for 3 seconds (with the lantern off, single click the switch to check the level). Green light on: 100%-85%. Green light flashes: 85%-50%. Red light on: 50%-25%. Red light flashes: 25%-1%. This function only works with a Fenix ARB-LP1900 battery.

Note: Specs measured by Fenix using one Fenix ARB-LP1900 battery at 21±3°C / 50–80% humidity; real-world performance varies. *High output is measured in total runtime including output at reduced levels due to temperature or the built-in protection mechanism.

Intelligent Overheat Protection

The lantern will accumulate a lot of heat when used for extended periods. When it reaches a temperature of 50°C/122°F or above, it will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature; when the temperature drops below 50°C/122°F, it will gradually recall the preset output level.

Low-Voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the Switch Light Ring blinks red 6 times every 1 second to remind users to recharge or replace the battery. The lantern will not turn off automatically and will work until the battery runs out.

Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the lantern and will void the warranty.
  • Fully charge the lantern in time to ensure normal function the next time it is needed.
  • Fenix recommends using an excellent quality battery.
  • If the lantern will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or it could be damaged by electrolyte leakage.
  • Recharge a stored lantern every three months to maintain optimum performance of the battery.
  • If the lantern flickers, shines intermittently, or fails to illuminate, check for a poor battery level (recharge or replace) or dirty battery/lantern contacts (clean with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol).
  • If issues persist, contact your authorized distributor.
