Yes the LR50R has two methods of overheat protection.

First, it features time-limited downshift which will force the light to step down after a period of time while on higher output levels.

• While in the Turbo output for over 20 seconds the light will dim imperceptively over 60 seconds until it reaches 8000 lumens.
• While in the High 2 output for over 60 seconds the light will dim imperceptively over 60 seconds until it reaches 4000 lumens.

Additionally, the LR50R features temperature sensors that will force the light to drop if the temperature reaches 140° F (60° C). Once the light drops below this threshold all brightness levels will be usable again.
